Memorable Class Highlight:
This class began to make sense and (a difference) to me in the photo project. To take the train and then the ferry was a great experience. Photo narrative/La Jettée and the continuity between those classes culminating in the video were valuable. The third part of the course was too much for me, I felt like getting to know Europe in 7 days. But I think that was the idea. To introduce tools and understand what we can do with them.
If, by any chance, they forget to give me my 150 million, I can make my own website!!!

I like: taking pictures, retouching them (a bit). I like shooting. I like editing (not as much as shooting). I like Coffee.
I like going to class on Saturdays with a new project to discuss. I like the possibility of making my own website.
I have enjoyed participating in the creative process of everyone in class. I seriously believe and like when Virgil emphasizes the process over the result.
A topic/theme/question I would like to investigate in my next project is:
I could say "empty spaces/silence". But that is not totally true.
As I have noticed while making the video (TheTree) a creation of something is always one possible outcome of a process that has been already happening. The important thing is to allow yourself to make (odd) things.
Plus, having a deadline helps a lot!
Something I learned in this class that I can teach someone else:
I would tell them that there is space for trying, experimenting, failing, and having fun. One of the things I like about Virgil is his ability to respond to the works by viewing the positive aspects of it and offering solutions, not only criticisms.
Something I learned in this class that I can teach someone else (technical):
I would not dare to teach anyone anything, I have a lot of work ahead of me before I could teach someone. Nevertheless I could be a good adviser relating to final cut pro issues and… I am also good at giving feedback and analyzing works.
Giving it a second thought I thing I can teach anyone many things about the softwares we related to. I do not know "everything" about them, but I surely know enough to give hints and tips.
Next semester, never done before:
In the summer I am going to take a Design class with Diane Mitchell.
I have always been very insecure with the visual (side of) arts. And FMD has helped me to trust a bit more in my choices.
Everyday, from now on:
Be less judgmental with my work.

If I had 150 million:
I would probably spend few millions traveling around the globe, writing (in Portuguese) and filming budget films. After that, I would create a foundation to foster contemporary arts in Brazil. I would give money to research in performance/dance. I would invest the rest of the money in the stock market so I would always have enough funding to keep my foundation going. And maybe this foundation would also include an art school for people who don’t have access. Besides, I would donate 2 million to Vidya Mandir, that is a center of study of Vedanta and Sanskrit.
How to do the same with 15 bucks:
With 15 bucks I would go to the movies and buy a diet-coke.
Then, I’ll would consume myself trying to raise money for the projects described above.
Since I wouldn’t be able to convince the “marketing people” of big corporations that contemporary art is important, I would get depressed, and give up those ideas.
I would then concentrate in trying to do my own work, that means… I would be doing what I am doing right now.

]]>I was looking for personal websites, and I found out that I usually go to people's blogs rather than to websites.
And most of the personal sites I know are from my friends. That's already a drawback in my intention to have a personal website, people would have to already know me ... so I decided I am going to make a website for www.refinariafilmes.com.br (I am not going to use this address); Refinaria is a small production company that me and two friends have in Brazil. We opened that for bureaucratic reasons, to facilitate our free lancer's lives, but we plan to make it happen someday. Meanwhile I am living in NY, Carolina in Lisboa (Lisbon) and Monica in Paris.
Refinaria is still in Rio.
